Sewing: a few napkins

I've had napkins on my to-do list for a while, and since I didn't have any major sewing planned, I decided today was as good a day as any to get some done!

I decided on a 15 x 15 size...I cut two a bit smaller at first, and decided they could be a LITTLE bit larger. I used the rolled hem on my machine. I chose the fabrics by their colors, so I could do them all without  changing the thread in the serger.

I cut these all out this morning, while the boys were in a Little Einstein's-induced-coma.

These are mostly all fabrics that were given to me and that I knew I wouldn't be able to make clothes out of because they were too small of pieces or they were blue (blue isn't flattering on me unless it has more yellow in it.)

Anyway, one less task on my list!! I made 15 total, and they took about 30 minutes to hem on the serger. It took much longer to cut them all out.

Great idea! So do you knot off the thread at each corner or do you loop the tail around and roll it into the next side?

I leave the cutter up, first of all, then when I get to the corner I leave the needle down and pivot. the knife blade cuts off that 2mm of fabric from the odd angle.

When I do terry rags, I disengage the cutter, so my corners are slightly curved to avoid having to stop and start. I'm terribly lazy. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the tip on making grocery bags :)

That's a great idea, especially here in Denmark where they charge about $1 for a plastic bag. I should sew up a few and keep them in my bike panniers.

Nicely done with the serger, it took me hours to pin and press the hems on my napkins.
